Hosts Mexico kick off the World Cup
Group A delivers the opening fixture of the entire World Cup 2026 on June 11 at Mexico City Stadium, where co-hosts Mexico face South Africa at 15:00 local time. The Azteca, the only venue in history to have hosted two previous World Cup finals (1970, 1986), becomes the centre of the football world for the tournament's first day.
South Africa, Korea Republic and Czechia
South Africa return to the World Cup for the first time since 2010. Korea Republic — Asia's most consistent World Cup nation across the past decade — arrive with a young core looking to repeat their 2022 Round-of-16 run. Czechia bring tournament experience and a technically gifted midfield. Group A matches are split between Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
